Amazon will let strangers INSIDE your house to deliver packages
Amazon will let strangers INSIDE your house to deliver packages?
12 years ago, Amazon introduced Prime, a subscription service that entitled members to free two-day shipping. Since then, Amazon has consistently released tonnes of options for faster and more efficient delivery. Prime customers can get same-day delivery, and could even drop off certain items an hour or two after the order had been placed.Of course, customers aren’t always home to receive their packages. It even talked about introducing drones that could drop the package right into your backyard!
Recently, Amazon has decided to go a step further and introduced ‘Amazon Key’ a new program for Prime members that lets delivery people drop off packages inside of customer homes. To make this delivery procedure possible, Amazon Cloud Cam was introduced, and customers are to buy a smart lock to allow the delivery people inside their homes.
The obvious question is, smart lock or not, do people want strange people entering their private space and dropping off packages? Cloud Cam allows users to view the deliveries being made live, but is it still safe? To what extent of urgency will people need to be in to require such a drastic measure?
“Each time a delivery driver requests access to a customer’s home, Amazon verifies that the correct driver is at the right address, at the intended time, through an encrypted authentication process,” the company said. “Once this process is successfully completed, Amazon Cloud Cam starts recording and the door is then unlocked. No special codes or keys are ever provided to delivery drivers.”
The amazon app key can go a long way if proved safe and reliable. It can be used for cleaning services, contractors, or even allowing your own friends inside your house in your absence.
Is this the future of online shopping, or just a more complicated way for burglars to get in? Time will tell.
(the Amazon Cloud Cam, currently priced at around $120, to be purchased separately.)
