Ideation

Tarang Khurana

Ideation is that portion of business development that defines your direction or route for the next couple of years. The most basic approach is to make sure that it solves a problem, so what we are trying to imply here is that whenever your business is in the ideation stage look for the flaws and find a counter to them rather than coming up with new plots.
Ideation is made up of each and every process used by a person to take an idea from its moment of conception to its real world application and implementation. So it is not only in the beginning stage of the formation of the basis of a business that we require ideation, ideation is required at every single stage. The primary objective of ideation should be to come up with something that gets the job done at a price lesser than what the customers are willing to pay.
One very common method people use is the number of ideas that they can come up with for a problem, we feel this is a negative approach. Rather than using the quantitative approach one should come up with one big idea that solves a small problem but for a larger population, because here the central cause is to make sure that the masses are comfortable after you put forward the application of your idea.
Please note that every single idea should be supported with a survey or a research on how the people react to your take on a solution for a problem they are facing. Basically, your idea should be of the form of ‘User Experience Design’. There is another strategy that supports this user experience design approach, that strategy is ‘ODI’ (Outcome Driven Innovation). ODI is built around the theory that people buy products and services to get jobs done. As people complete these jobs, they have certain measurable outcomes that they are attempting to achieve.
Some steps we suggest that might help in ideation are:-
1.      Challenge Existing Assumptions
2.      Try Linking Unrelated Concepts
3.      Come up with a name first and then write its story
4.      Translation of Sensory Experience(Read about Sensational Transference)

5.      Reverse Thinking
