Embracing Mediocrity

Reading this article and expecting to find a solution to eradicate mediocrity is not what you'll get from this write-up, but what I can promise is that it will for sure help you tackle the feeling of mediocrity and hence help you "embrace" it.
 ‎
Being mediocre isn't the problem at present but realizing your mediocrity or average performance is a problem, although it helps one become an all-rounder. But when does being mediocre really become a pain??

It does only when one realizes that one is mediocre or ordinary. There was an entire decade when the employers demanded the person to be jack of all trades and master of none, but gradually the need is again shifting towards specializations so realizing one's mediocrity at this point of time lands one in a worry.

It's exactly what Kevin Spacey quotes in his extraordinary performance in American Beauty:-
"Nothing is more painful than the realization of being ordinary", the thing is that “It’s okay to be okay”.
Social Media is one thing that is actually quite responsible for making people realize their mediocrity as everyone’s news feed is filled with their friend’s and family’s achievements, be it material or aesthetic, so people need to stay happy. In no way am I saying to give up on your dreams, all I’m saying is that chase them alone without comparing yourself to others or even yourself.

So how to tackle this feeling and how to get better at your work after this realization.
The answer is simple: - Be the finisher.
Start doing tasks and every small job just as you do normally, but make sure you give all the tasks a proper closure. By closure I mean set up tasks and a deadline to it for every fixed time period and just go at a steady pace to complete them.

Closure is the answer to this situation.
Providing closure to anything you do gives you self-confidence and in a way you start giving credit to yourself to every single small task.

Start by the most basic to-do tasks and completing them. Let’s say you start by waking up every day and tidying up your bed and making your bed ready for sleep at night, or just clean up after preparing your breakfast or do not leave clothes on the chair before heading out, basically what I’m trying to say is get some structure and organized behavior in your life.

The completion of these tasks do not help you solve mediocrity but help you embrace it.
The feeling of not being the best at something is only a cause of lack in self-confidence, but this can be corrected by providing closure to every little bit you do.

So, to give a closure to this write-up I would say do not treat mediocrity as a flaw in you but embrace it and utilize it to present your skills to the fullest. Mediocrity isn’t a disease it’s a gift that gives you an option to contemplate and retrospect your past.
